The most efficient way of heating your office
A warm office is key to having a happier workforce, but of course, heating your office isn’t exactly cheap. Most offices rely on air conditioning units or radiators which get the job done but consume a lot of power. Unfortunately, these methods are inherently inefficient as they heat the air around the office which is going to be wasted as people enter and leave their offices. If you’ve ever considered making cost savings on office heating then you might have heard of Infrared Heaters, a modern and more effective means of heating your cold office!

What is Infrared heating?
Infrared heating is the process of heating through the use of infrared radiation. Radiation is not, however, just nuclear and dangerous. Everything that emits heat does so through the radiation process. The sun’s heat is also infrared and infrared heaters are no more dangerous than sunlight.
Infrared heaters are somewhat different from conventional heaters, however. While conventional heating warms the air around it, infrared heating heats through the air particles and heats objects directly. In exactly the same way a metal object gets hotter in sunlight. As a result, these heated objects radiate their own heat until the whole room is basked in warmth. This makes infrared heating panels extremely efficient as they do not need to remain on for extended periods of time as objects emit heat gradually and over time.
How Efficient are Infrared Heaters?
Typically an infrared heater 40% the size of a conventional heater will still produce the same level of comfort. To put this is more tangible terms, a 400W infrared heater will produce the same amount of heat as a 1kW conventional heater. The people at greenage have written an excellent study explaining this in more detail.
Infrared heating panels are naturally more effective, but a complete heating system revamp might be out of the question. The good news is that Infrared heating panels are considerably cheap to install. First of all, they don’t need a complex piping system to function, you simply plug them into the electrical grid and you’re good to go. This means that it’s also possible to gradually introduce Infrared heaters office by office.
Is infrared a good way of heating your office?
There are a number of reasons why infrared heating panels are ideally suited for office heating, as you feel the warmth instantly. You don’t have to wait fifteen minutes for your cold office to heat up. Keep in mind that that’s fifteen minutes of power being used to heat air that might be dispersed with a draught. Whereas with infrared heaters you simply turn it on when you need it and it overcomes problems like a breezy room with ease.
Infrared heating panels also have the added advantage of being completely silent! Which means that employees can focus and concentrate without having to hear the irritating droning of the air-conditioning in the background. Infrared heaters don’t only cut down on noise pollution but are also a much healthier means of heating! For a full list of the health benefits of infrared heaters click here.

Infrared heaters also heat a room much quicker than say an air-conditioning unit and that heat also lasts for longer as while air might circulate around the room, objects all over the room are radiating their heat slowly.
